Free Saab 99 Stuff (circa 1977)

I've been holding on to some Saab 99 remnants for too long now. I'll be lucky enough to get one of my 96 strokers restored, let alone add a 99 to my stable; I'm getting old.

This stuff is all free to the first taker, but it is local pickup only. Maybe, if you are going to SOC 2010 in Aurora, you could stop by. I live just 24 miles straight north of Aurora, about a 40 minute drive. I probably won't be attending.

I prefer that someone takes all, and I will give preference to someone offering via email to take it all until July 1, 2010. Commencing July 1, I will give bits to the first who has asked via email. If nobody takes this stuff by the end of SOC 2010, I may try eBay.

Not shown below, but offered freely, separately (not part of the "take all") is a 4-speed manual tranny from a 1976 Saab 99. It has unknown internal problems, maybe serious, maybe not; at least the case looks good.

Windows

Pictured below are windows from a 77 EMS I believe. The glass is all original Saab glass, no chips or scratches. There are two back windows, a left rear. a right rear, a left door, a right door. I believe the back windows are from a 2 door sedan, not a Wagonback, not sure. The overall glass dimensions are 22.75" top-to-bottom, and 50" side-to-side. The rubber on the back windows is surprisingly soft and resilient, without cracks, and could be used again in my opinion. The trim on the rear side windows is all good except for one dimple in the front trim of one caused by careless removal. Each window is shown twice, once from the inside, and once from the outside.

About the back window defoggers, I wouldn't count on them working. The windows were stored in a dirt-floor barn for over 20 years, and developed a lot of green oxide. I measured the resistance and got 48 ohms on one, but 40k ohms on the other. I don't know what the resistance should be, but even the 48 ohms seems high, and the 40k ohms certainly won't work. However, the traces look complete, and maybe repairs can be made.

Bumpers and Steering Gear

Pictured below are the front and rear bumpers from a 77 EMS I believe. I cleaned the windows pictured above, but I was too hot and tired to clean these, or the soccerballs further down. The oxidized, broken trim band speaks for itself. The neoprene is in better shape, but not perfect, probably good enough for a daily driver. It is sound, but has some scratches, and a small tear or two near the ends where it's not very noticeable.

The steering gear should be good. I can't feel any play in the tie-rod ball joints.

Soccerballs

Pictured below are the 4 wheels from a 77 EMS. They appear straight and in good shape, needing only finish restoration, or at least a good cleaning.
